NHS Contraception Service

Start or continue your regular oral contraceptive pill and get your ongoing checks — all through a confidential remote consultation with our pharmacist, without needing to see your GP.

The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service lets a pharmacist manage your routine oral contraception. Because we are a distance selling pharmacy, we provide it remotely — by telephone or secure video — with any medicine delivered to your door.

What we can help with

  • Ongoing supply — continue an oral contraceptive pill you were already prescribed by your GP or a clinic.
  • Starting contraception — begin a suitable oral contraceptive pill after a consultation, where clinically appropriate.
  • Routine checks — blood pressure and weight can be reviewed as part of your ongoing care, with guidance on how to provide readings from home.
  • Advice — how to take your pill, what to do about missed pills, side effects and when to seek further help.

Confidential and led by clinical need

Your consultation is private and confidential. Our pharmacist follows the NHS clinical protocol and will only supply contraception where it is safe and appropriate for you. If a different type of contraception or a face-to-face examination is needed, we'll refer you to your GP or a sexual health service.

Frequently asked questions

Is the service free?
The NHS consultation is free. If you normally pay NHS prescription charges, the usual charge may apply to the contraception supplied, unless you are exempt.
Can I start the pill for the first time?
Yes, in many cases. Our pharmacist will assess your health and, where it is clinically appropriate and safe, can start you on a suitable oral contraceptive pill.
How are my blood pressure and weight checked if you're online?
Our pharmacist will guide you on providing recent readings — for example from a home blood pressure monitor or another healthcare setting. If a check can't be done safely at a distance, we'll signpost you to where it can.
Is my consultation private?
Yes. Your consultation and information are kept confidential and handled in line with our privacy policy.
